MEET WALTER…also known as “Walter Mitty” — who dreams of a wonderful, loving forever home! He’s a scrappy, tan/black, 15 lb, 3-4 yr old Lhasa/ShihTzu we believe. His story is tragic 🙁 His dad had a stroke and laid in his home for 5 days before the paramedics were called. Walter laid by his side and when the family arrived, didn’t know where to take him so they brought him to the Irvine Animal Shelter and placed him in their care program. Since Walter’s dad will be unable to care for him, his very concerned, wonderful family contacted us (they thought he was a Lhasa but he is more ShihTzu) and the rest is history.

We got Walter groomed and slowly but surely his is coming around and knows he is safe. It does take him a bit to warm up, but we think because he is not fond of other small dogs, and his roommate is a 7 lb Yorkie, he is keeping to himself a lot. He LOVES going for his walks…although he can be stubborn at times. He gets very excited and loves to play with his person, especially when it’s feeding time! That being said, he is really picky and will hold back until he is ready to eat! He is rather robust but it just adds to his charm. He seems to be potty trained but we never guarantee. Walter is not aggressive at all, but he will snap out of protection for himself if other dogs get in his face. Little by little he is getting better with this, but we believe Walter would like to be your one and only!

We believe Walter would be best in a home where her gets a lot of attention and is a solo companion to a family. Probably okay with older kids (10+) and someone who works from home or likes to take their dog with them on adventures. The only time we have heard him bark is when some kids were playing basketball and bouncing the ball made him either frightened or wanting to get in on the action! He’s an easy going guy who just wants love and attention — don’t we all?
