MEET TEQUILA….and her story is a very sad one, so get out your kleenex.  We don’t know where this little 3 yr old, 11 lb, cream colored, Maltese Terrier, spent the first years of her life, but we know that she had been living in a construction/trailer park and hiding under cars for the past year.  Blow up the picture below and you will not believe it is the same dog!!   

Tequila was absolutely terrified when she was brought into rescue.  She wouldn’t make eye contact — just very fearful of what’s next.  She is NOT aggressive and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.  But she will need a very patient home that will lavish her with love and attention and at the same time, give her an opportunity to settle in…and that could take some time.  She needs to learn how to trust.  She has been using the doggie door at her foster home and seems to understand but sometimes just forgets so no guarantees.  Little by little, she is getting used to the leash but needs practice.  Tequila doesn’t play with toys yet…or give kisses…but she is a sweetheart of a dog and we believe she will blossom eventually.  When she comes out from under a chair or the couch…she will dart back in if she is frightened.  So, if you are looking for a dog who will give you immediate gratification — probably not this baby.  Her foster moms want her to go to a home where you are around, maybe have a dog who is calm and can help show her the way and live in a house, not an apartment.  After rescuing so many dogs who have come in this way, we can tell you the wait is worth it.  Are you ready for a shot of Tequila?  As far as Tequila goes, she is Patron all the way!!  🙂  **Likely, Tequila will not be available until October.  We want to give her time to blossom.  Look at her video and you will see what we mean 🙁
