THIS IS SHORTCAKE…one of the sweetest seniors you will ever meet, and her story is so unfortunate.  She came to LHH from a hoarding situation.  We don’t know how many dogs there were in total, but 6 were brought to us.  The dogs were no doubt loved, but just found themselves in a bad situation.  We gave them all confectionary names to add a little sweetness to their lives. 

Shortcake is about 12 yrs old, 14 lbs and tan with gray tips.  We think she is a Lhasa Apso mix–with a docked tail!  She is blind and deaf.  When she arrived to us, we were afraid to take her out of the truck because she was so frail.  Flea and worm infested, eye/ear infections, covered in warts and so weak she could barely walk.  Shortcake was a skeletal 10 lbs.  The infection in one of her eyes was so bad that it needed to be removed, but no matter she couldn’t see out of it anyway!  And through it all, she’s maintained her unassuming, gentle personality.   

Once we’d tended to Shortcake’s immediate medical needs, we plumped her up to her ideal weight.  Luckily she loves to eat!  And despite her original condition, her bloodwork looked good for a mature lady!  She does have dry eye in her remaining eye (easily managed with daily drops) and is slightly hypothyroid, for which she just needs an inexpensive pill twice a day with her meals.  We learned that she previously had bladder stones, so she’ll need to be on a special diet for the rest of her life…but all in all, what she really needs is love.  Do you have enough love in your heart for this darling girl?
