MEET SHELDON…a very sweet, mature Shih Tzu gentleman at 8 yrs old, 11 lbs, tan and white and cute all over!  He came from the South Central Shelter a total mess but our groomer said “he’s a very nice dog.”  He doesn’t say that about many of our dogs!!  They usually are in such bad condition they get testy…but not Sheldon; he was a gentleman.  He wasn’t neutered when they gave him to us because they said 8 yrs old is too old to neuter at their facility.  Hogwash!  We took him to Shelter Vet in West LA and he was done without issue.   We did learn that he has a slight heart murmur (grade 3 out of 6) and he is visually impaired (not dry eye) but not blind.  Not uncommon for Shih Tzu at this age.  He doesn’t have a skin infection, but his coat was shedding so we know he didn’t get good nourishment like he is now, which should solve the problem.  He just didn’t have good care in the past and his skin and eyes were infected.  We have been treating him and he is doing great.  Not a candidate for any other medication at this time.  His bloodwork came back normal and he is a very healthy boy!

Sheldon is more of a laid back boy, but he is a great eater.  Don’t touch his food before he’s ready or he may surprise you!  He can be a little food aggressive which tells us he probably had to fight for his meals 🙁  He is great with everyone, but we wouldn’t recommend kids for this reason.  He would be good in a mature home with or without another dog.  He is just recovering from being neutered and he has the sniffles so we are hoping to bring him to adoptions on Sunday if he is feeling better!  Sheldon is a dog you can pamper and love.  Does he sound like a fit for you?
