MEET RICO!!   This tan/black, 18 lb, 4-5 yr old Lhasa Apso is not for kids!  However, he is a wonderful, loving, sweetheart of a dog who can be temperamental at certain times. He is very A-typical of the breed… he doesn’t like to be moved when he is in his “place.”  Do you?  If he drags a leash, he’s fine!  He likes to eat with company, you!  Little things you just can’t do and he is a regular dog!  Don’t mess with his food, or his tail and some training will make him even better!  He is extremely loving and will literally wake you up in the morning with wet, sloppy kisses on your face telling you, “it’s time to go out!”

His owner surrendered him because there was a child, who didn’t listen to mom, and Rico bit him.  Kids don’t always listen!

With a yard and access to go outside, he seems to be potty trained for those “quickies,” but no guarantees at your house.  Better to walk him on a regular basis and that fixes that!  He would be fine in an apartment.  He is very funny about his food…so don’t mess with him when he is eating (me either!)….but he’s a good eater.  Rico loves his walks and is good on them…most of the time he is not a guard dog but when he feels he should be, he is!  He gets a bit anxious when he is left alone, so he would prefer a home where he is not left  — but he does not have separation anxiety and he is pretty quiet.  Settles down.  He can be a bit dominant (or at least wants to be, in a good way)!  We know he loves other dogs but can be choosy and does not need to have one in his home for the above reasons.

If you love the breed, you will love Rico.  His person needs to understand Lhasa and their wonderful intelligence.  He is playful, happy and generally a terrific dog who needs a home that will love him even with his quirks!  He is in my house with 5 other dogs!!  Does that sound like you?
