MEET GRAYSON…a dapper, super loving, white, 3-4 yr old, 12.5 lb, Maltipoo, who came from the Downey Shelter.  He was scared and fearful…but we didn’t realize how traumatized he was meeting men 🙁

Unfortunately, it’s clear poor Grayson has had a tough life — probably inconsistent parenting and people giving up on him.  We don’t know the specifics, but he was in the shelter in 2021 and again in 2023.  He was given up (2023) because he “nipped” a child in the forehead when picked up.  Adults didn’t see it happen but decided to dump him instead of working with him.  His first foster told us he didn’t like men but we didn’t realize how deep!  We moved him to a new foster couple, with a husband and wife, and 72 hours after working with him, Grayson became the dog you see in this video.  Truly, all he needs is training, love and patience.  He is an absolute love, cuddler and sweetheart…but it will take  patience, time and training…most of all love and consistency…for him to trust.  He is so worth it.

Grayson can be protective of his person and leash aggressive with strangers/dogs on walks, so he will need training for this.  He is smart and wants to please…and very easy to love. Training will be a condition of adoption to set him up to be the best dog he can be.

When we first met Grayson, he was wary of us, the vet and people he didn’t know.   It took him 24 hours to be rolling on his back, begging for belly rubs, and cuddling as close as he could with us!  Still not crazy about scissors near his eyes…but his foster mom let him clean and trim them.  He is a kiss-a-holic, human and dogs, so be prepared!!  Once he knows you love him, and he can trust you, he’s yours.   

Grayson sometimes loves dogs a little too much…so we have decided that he would be best as an only dog (or in a home with a dog of HIS choosing)!  Toys are among his favorite things…and he is very treat motivated, so he will learn quickly.  Seems to know where to do his business, but we never guarantee.   

Grayson is a wonderful, affectionate dog and would be a wonderful addition to an active family without kids, who are looking for a dog to love.
