MEET GANDALF…who came all the way from NorCal to join us at Lhasa Happy Homes. This adorable, charcoal/white, 16.5 lb, 5 yr old Teripoo, with very soulful eyes, was supposed to be a Lhasa X!! He came via the Berkeley Animal Shelter three years ago, where they thought he was 3 yrs old. Gandalf is STILL a youngster, and they aged him too old (not uncommon for a shelter!) Gandalf is like a big puppy! He is very, VERY active but doesn’t always have great manners — but his foster is teaching him. He likes to jump up on you, pull on the leash, jump up on you, pull on the leash! In other words, he needs some training! He was given up because his human was a senior and tripped over him and broke her ankle; then he jumped on her and injured it again. They LOVED him and hated giving him up, but it was the right thing to do for them and for him. So, Gandalf would not be a good fit in a senior home.
We thought that Gandalf would be very happy as your one and only as he can be a little bossy. He gets along fine with other dogs, but his foster mom says he gets upset when left alone, so he would like a buddy. Naturally, he needs to approve his new BFF, so introductions are necessary and can be arranged in advance.
Gandalf loves his walks but he does drag you! He seems to know to do his business outside, but we never guarantee! He is very kissy, very loving, very sweet and does listen when you tell him to sit or stay. That being said, he needs practice and a home that is patient and will take him to obedience training. Gandalf doesn’t love being left behind, but he does settle down and would be best in a home where his family is around a lot or they will take him along. He LOVES belly rubs!! His former owners told us that he can nip if you do something he doesn’t like…but we have not seen any of that at all. However, for this reason, only kids over 12 yrs old will be considered. Gandalf is a winner and he will make any house a home. Please make sure you have read this profile before applying!
