MEET EMERY….whose start in life wasn’t optimal.  This handsome, tan/white, 16 lb, 3-4 yr old Lhasa Apso mix is the epitome of his breed.  Known for being very intelligent, stubborn, loyal, sensitive, wary and sometimes untrusting…until they know you are the boss and trustworthy… that describes Emery.  PLUS a huge dash of adorable, funny, happy, loving and wanting to belong.  

Emery came to us via the East Valley shelter, where his owners were present stating they had given him away.  They could not take responsibility for the horrible mess he was in, matted to the bone and in obvious pain.  Shelter shaved him with a 40 surgical blade, right down to the skin.  His anal glands were impacted and he had a terrible bilateral ear infection.  I would be cranky too!!!

We decided to take him for bootcamp training and his wonderful trainer uncovered these maladies.  Once cleared up, Emery has been a different dog.  Before, you couldn’t touch him on his back and he was very untrusting; now he begs for a scratch and a rub and enjoys the attention.  Just look at the video of this baby!  But, you have to earn his trust, like most Lhasa, before this will happen.  Emery does need a seasoned, Lhasa person, who understands the personality and will work with him!  He comes with five (free) trainings to set him up for success.  He seems potty trained, but we never guarantee.  Once you work with him, he understands “be nice,” “good dog,” is very treat motivated and you will speak the same language.  He will become your best friend and you will become his.  HE LOVES MEN!!  We believe he would be best in a home without kids, with or without another dog (he doesn’t really engage with other dogs and isn’t playful with them) but he only needs YOU!  AND he needs patience, love and boundaries until you trust each other, which happens swiftly when you understand Emery!  He has a great personality and is a real character.

With each day, Emery gets better and more playful.  He just needs a forever family without kids to show him that life can be wonderful.  Are you up for that?  We promise it will be worth it!!
