Bruiser (formerly BMR)
Hooray! This dog has been adopted!
***ADOPTION PENDING***
MEET BRUISER…a quirky little 3 yr old, Maltese Mix, who weighed 7.5 lbs when he came to us, with a badly fractured leg. The story was he nipped his owner on the hand and then “jumped” off the bed and broke his leg. After having Bruiser for a few weeks as of this writing, I believe he was thrown off the bed and probably not the first time.
Bruiser is a very loving dog but he can be fearful. He loves to give kisses, lean into your body to cuddle, listens when you tell him to stay or come, takes his meds like a champ and lets me put his cone on and off without any trouble…but he is very sensitive and if you do something that hurts him, he may nip. When I first got him, I picked him up wrong and he got very upset for a minute…and the next time I came in he was fine and no other incident.
Bruiser is NOT an aggressive or mean dog…but he is wary. Most of the time, he is excited to see you (even with his broken leg) and he really listens! He is such a good boy 99% of the time, it hurts my heart that anyone could ever scare this dog. For this reason, we think no kids is the best scenario, along with a home with a very gentle, kind, loving family. He also seems to be potty trained, although we never guarantee. He will do his business quickly when he goes outside and eventually will love to go for extended walks. If he can’t get outside, he will consistently use a pp pad and never misses! When he is outside on a walk, he is protective and will bark at strangers and big dogs…but he settles down fairly quickly and just wants to make friends. Now that Bruiser is feeling better, he is playing with his human and canine fosters and toys, asking for belly rubs and is a wonderful pup. Loves other dogs.
He is on week #4 (3/25) and will be available to be adopted after six weeks (4/24) if the vet releases him. We are accepting applications now. NO OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS. Do you think you could love this mischief maker?
