MEET HAMLET…or as he is affectionately known as “Hammy” at LHH.  This little tan/white, 15 lb, 4-5 yr old Lhasa/Shih Tzu, has not had a very happy life from what we can tell.  He came to us from the South LA shelter with a broken vertebrae, probably hit by a car.  He was in a lot of pain, but the only thing we could do for him was give him bed rest and pain meds; no surgery could be done.  Slowly but surely, Hammy got on his feet and the next thing we knew he was walking, gingerly, but walking!  His hair was very sparse and was shedding, but we have been treating it with antibiotics and holistically and it has come in darker (like red) and is no longer falling out!  He doesn’t seem to shed and he doesn’t look like a mix that would shed.  OY!  He was not itchy and didn’t have a rash, but his skin was peeling.  That seems to have subsided.  That’s what good food, love and medicated baths will do for you!  Hamlet has just been through hell, but he is walking and running around now.  He is not jumping on couches or down (not allowed) but he is doing great!!  He seems to want to play with other dogs, but he doesn’t really have the strength yet.  We think he prefers girls to boys.  And, he gives you lots of kisses, chews on his antlers and bones, loves to be stroked and brushed, is good being bathed and overall has a wonderful nature.  He has a very endearing personality.  We can tell you he loves his food and is a good eater!  He will need some work on his potty training, but once he is settled, that should be easier.  Do you have your heart sent on a loving, sweetheart of a dog who would love his people to be around, a girl dog, and a happy home?  He’s available now!
