It was a little over 11 years ago that we decided to adopt a companion for Checkers, our gray-and-white Lhasa. We knew that there were too many homeless dogs needing a good home, so we began our search for a rescue.
Shaina joined our family in March 2000. When we saw Shaina on the Lhasa Happy Homes website, it was love at first sight. It was hard to believe that this beautiful girl, with her big brown eyes and long eye lashes, was sitting on death row with a severe ear infection before LHH came to her rescue. Even though Shaina had just arrived and still needed training, we knew she was meant to be ours. She bit us several times on the way home, but returning her was not an option! We knew that what Shaina needed more than anything was to be loved and not dumped again. With training, patience and love, she has become a model citizen and Daddy’s little princess.
After adopting Shaina, we would periodically visit the Lhasa Happy Homes website, and we noticed that Fanci was still up for adoption after being in foster care for almost a year. We knew that the likelihood of someone adopting a blind 11-year old dog with medical needs was small. It hit us that this furbaby needed us, and we decided to adopt Fanci in February 2011.
Who ever said adopting an older dog is no fun? Fanci-Pants really loves playing peek-a-boo from under the table. Fanci may not be able to see, but she always seems to look right at the camera and smile. She has definitely become Daddy’s little golden girl.
