MEET WINNIE…a precious, loving, sweet 4-5 yr old, cream, ~10 lbs, mix of Maltese/Doxie? Her breed is a mystery, but her story is not. Winnie came to LHH with her sister Bonnie when their senior mom went into assisted living and couldn’t take them. Early NYE morning, a tragic freak accident took Bonnie’s life…and away from Winnie. While Winnie is now flying solo, we know that Bonnie is guiding her journey to find the perfect forever home, and we’re going to help make that happen!
Despite all odds, Winnie is doing so much better than expected and she’s really adjusting wonderfully. Unfortunately, she got a crew-cut makeover, but hair grows back! First picture is what she will look like and the others are her present “do”. We think she’s adorable either way! Because she has some separation anxiety and no one can be home 24/7, we think Winnie definitely needs to go to a home where there is at least one other small, calm dog. She loves chin and belly rubs, treats, snuggling and cuddling in blankets and residing on your lap. She is potty-pad trained…and now walks well on a leash and is learning to potty outside. She can be vocal when startled or hearing noises outside. She has been vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and is healthy — but she does have IBD, so she requires lifelong probiotics and special food. Winnie can be a little timid at first, but once she feels comfortable she bonds like superglue! And, she’s a big kisser!
What she needs now is a home where she will be doted on and loved to life. We think she would do better in a house than an apartment or condo — she loves to do zoomies in her foster mom’s backyard! She is affectionate and the best family would be one who is sensitive, warm, low-key and supportive to bring Winnie back to the happy life she had. Could that family be yours?
